1-2 DAY WORKSHOPS

In Person and Online Workshops

Our workshops offer real-world professional development so you can feel ready and confident to put theory into practice straight away.

PERINATAL & INFANT MENTAL HEALTH

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Skills for Perinatal

A practical one-day workshop for clinicians wanting to integrate ACT more confidently into perinatal work.

Perinatal clients often sit at the intersection of distress and deep meaning. Alongside anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and overwhelm, there can also be identity shifts, changing relationships, attachment concerns, uncertainty, guilt, values conflict, and enormous pressure around what parenthood is “supposed” to feel like.

ACT offers a therapeutic framework uniquely suited to this complexity.

Rather than focusing purely on symptom reduction, ACT supports clinicians to help clients increase psychological flexibility — building capacity to move toward connection, meaning, and valued living even in the presence of pain, uncertainty, or difficult internal experiences.

This workshop is designed to help clinicians apply ACT in ways that feel clinically grounded, emotionally attuned, and genuinely relevant to the realities of perinatal work.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is ideal for clinicians who:

  • already use ACT and want to apply it more specifically to perinatal presentations
  • work with perinatal clients and want a more cohesive intervention framework
  • want practical ways to integrate ACT concepts into real clinical conversations
  • are looking to deepen their therapeutic skills within Perinatal & Infant Mental Health

Suitable for:

  • Psychologists
  • Social Workers
  • Counsellors
  • Mental Health Clinicians
  • Allied Health Professionals

This workshop works well as either:

  • a standalone professional development training, or
  • a next-step integration workshop following Full Circle

What You’ll Explore

Throughout the day, we will explore how ACT can be applied across a range of common perinatal presentations, including:

  • Pregnancy loss and grief
  • Birth trauma
  • Antenatal and postnatal anxiety
  • Depression and emotional overwhelm
  • Couples and relationship strain
  • Premature birth and medical complexity
  • Social isolation and support deficits
  • Trauma histories and vulnerability activation
  • Attachment and bonding concerns
  • The emotional realities of infant care and adjustment

We will also explore:

  • psychological flexibility within the perinatal context
  • values and identity shifts in parenthood
  • shame, self-criticism, and perfectionism
  • experiential avoidance in parenting and caregiving
  • helping clients make space for difficult thoughts and emotions
  • supporting clients toward workable, values-aligned action

What Makes This Workshop Different?

Many ACT trainings focus heavily on the model itself.

This workshop focuses on translation.

How ACT actually sounds in the room.
How it adapts to the emotional realities of pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early parenting.
How to use ACT processes flexibly without becoming overly scripted or technique-driven.

The aim is not simply to understand ACT conceptually, but to feel more confident integrating it into nuanced perinatal presentations.

Our Approach

This workshop is:

  • clinically practical
  • reflective and relational
  • grounded in evidence-informed practice
  • focused on therapeutic process, not rigid protocol
  • designed to support integration into everyday clinical work

Expect:

  • case examples
  • experiential exercises
  • conceptual discussion
  • practical intervention ideas
  • opportunities for reflection and application

For Full Circle Clinicians

If you are currently completing — or have previously completed — Full Circle, this workshop is designed to deepen the intervention side of your work. Where Full Circle focuses on foundational understanding of Perinatal & Infant Mental Health, ACT for Perinatal focuses more specifically on therapeutic process and intervention application.

Why ACT in Perinatal Work?

Perinatal clients are often navigating experiences that cannot simply be “fixed.”

ACT provides a framework for helping clients:

  • relate differently to distress
  • reconnect with meaning and values
  • reduce struggle with internal experiences
  • strengthen self-compassion
  • build flexibility during periods of enormous transition

For many clinicians, ACT becomes less of a technique and more of a way of understanding and responding to the complexity of human experience during the perinatal period.

Perinatal work is complex.Clients may present with:

- anxiety, depression, trauma

- birth-related distress

- identity shifts and relationship strain

Often all at once. Many clinicians understand the theory but applying it confidently in practice can feel much harder.

 Full Circle bridges that gap.

✔ Strengthen your ability to translate theory into practice
✔ Better understand the emotional and relational shifts of this period
